The Recording Equipment
Well, we COULD get ourselves one of those massive analogue mixing consoles
that you see in some of the fancy studios - I mean it really does look
good. But guess who would have to pay for it... YOU, of course! The truth
is that most studios today run PC / Mac based systems that do not need all
that fancy designer stuff - just really good equipment that's really
reliable.
At One Big Room we love to keep things simple and in working order. That's
why we prefer a Yamaha O1V96 (Version 2) 40-channel
Digital Mixer and Presonus Pre Amps, allowing us 26 tracks of pristine recording at any one
time. The mixer has been upgraded to include the sought-after VCM Add-on
Vintage Compressors, EQ and Rev-X Reverbs - stunning!
A Focusrite VoiceMaster Pro dedicated analogue channel is the main signal chain for the ultimate
in modern and vintage vocal sound.
All audio goes straight into the award-winning Sonar 8 Producer Edition at 24bit,
32bit or 64bit,
44.1 kHz – 96kHz, better than CD quality. Sonar 8 runs at 64 bit
internally and is also compatible with ProTools
and Cubase projects via OMF or Wav / AIFF transfer.

The
O1V96 mixer has fully motorized faders and 4 built-in Yamaha stereo
effects processors. Every input has
full dynamic processing (compression, phase, time delay, etc),
separate gating and a 4-band fully parametric EQ, and there is zero latency.
Mobile / Location Recording of live concerts: We use either our original classic Yamaha AW4416, 16-track
Hard-disk recorder, and our Dual Yamaha i88X 32-track recording system for
recording live concerts and albums in remote venues.
Extra
processing power comes from a UK designed Carillon Music Production PC,
providing more plug-ins and storage.
